We finally arrived in Abu Dhabi and were very happy to stretch our legs. Rian had announced halfway through the first leg of the trip that he wanted to go home!
Etihad provide free strollers and they were everywhere. Kaelan climbed straight into one claiming it as his own, but then Rian decided he wanted one too which left us having to carry Kaelan / have him walk as we could manage all the hand luggage and two strollers! It was a two and a half hour stop over, but by the time we got off the flight and found bought some drinks (Rian was very pleased to find strawberry juice and Kaelan quite happy with the fresh orange juice. They both guzzled almost the entire bottles themselves, leaving Mummy and Daddy to share the bottle of water....) and had a quick wander around it was nearly time to board the flight to Dublin.
The kids were tired and we were relieved to be seated on the plane again. Having been awake for a good few hours before the last flight landed Kaelan promptly fell asleep for an hour and a half. This was lovely until we calculated that we had roughly 5 and a half hours to keep him occupied before we would arrive in Dublin! Being a daytime flight the boys found this much easier to cope with. On the previous flight the lights were out almost all the time so the time they were awake was spent with darkness around them and we were always concious that the people around us were trying to sleep. Kaelan busied himself with standing up on the seat and playing peekaboo with anyone who was willing but was disappointed when the people in front proceeded to sleep for the entire flight. Rian split his time between watching dvds, colouring and asking whether or not we were at the farm yet :-) Both of the boys were fantastic on this flight where they were awake most of the time. We had a bit of frustration with Kaelan after he woke up wanting to wander around more than we could manage but we eventually settled him into his CARES harness (best $100 I have ever spent) where he was happy watching dvds and having snacks for a few hours.
I was relived to only have one pooey nappy to change on our flight over which was on the first leg to Abu Dhabi, Kaelan was quite intrigued with the toilet, so it was quite straight forward. Pity the person who used the toilet after us though! With relief the flight to Dublin was poo-free, however Kaelan promptly exploded out of his nappy while we were waiting in the incredibly long queue to get through customs where there was not a toilet in sight!
